What is CoQ10
Coenzyme Q10, or CoQ10, is a vitamin-like enzyme that is produced naturally in our bodies. In fact, CoQ10 is present at a cellular level in all of our body’s cells and is responsible for the production of our body’s energy. As a secondary function, CoQ10 is considered a potent antioxidant. First discovered in 1957 by Fred Crane, Coenzyme Q10 is believed to hold significant value in not only the prolonging of life, thus essentially maintaining anti-aging properties, but for the overall improvement of our quality of life.
While this is ambitions boast that any nutrient, vitamin or supplement may prolong life, it is noted that deficiencies of Coenzyme Q10 are common in individuals with congestive heart failure, who have suffered heart attacks, suffer from Parkinson’s disease or those who have certain types of cancer or AIDS. Even thought this fact does not explicitly facilitate the claim that by simply adding CoQ10 to ones diet or daily intake in the form of a supplement will cure cancer, cure AIDS or prevent heart disease, there are studies that not only subtly allude to this fact; some studies directly correlate the increased usage of a CoQ10 supplement with remission of certain cancers, delaying the progression of Parkinson’s disease and decreased complications for individuals who suffer from congestive heart failure.
Coenzyme Q10 – when deficiency begins
Our natural production of CoQ10 plateaus at around the age of 20, though this varies somewhat based on the individual. As we get older, our bodies produce less of this much needed enzyme, and more and more it is believed that the lack of Coenzyme Q10 precipitates mental and physical deterioration in some individuals.
What Coenzyme Q10 does, in layman’s terms
Backed by over 40 years of research and studies, Coenzyme Q10 is found to have the following benefits in some individuals:
• Helps to support a healthy heart
• Protection from free radicals (antioxidant properties)
• Helps to increase and maintain energy levels
• Helps to lower blood pressure
• Helps to improve and repair the effects of advanced periodontal disease
• Helps increase the white blood cell count in HIV patients
• Helps to support the immune system and protects against viruses
• May increase the antibodies produced in one’s body as much as 2x to combat allergies
• Physical improvements for those who suffer from muscular dystrophy
While Coenzyme Q10 may not have the same effects for every person, there is more than ample research available to support that using a CoQ10 supplement will not only work to improve your quality of life, but it will work as an anti-aging agent to minimalize some of the consequences of “growing old”. While we’re not all prone to congestive heart disease or breast cancer, certainly if it were only for the increased energy and antioxidant properties of the Coenzyme Q10 supplement, that in itself would be more than worth boosting our own natural levels of Coenzyme Q10.
Coenzyme Q10 and its anti-aging properties
It’s a proven fact that we all grow old, but as far as gracefully, that’s up to us. Not only can CoQ10 help us to maintain healthy energy levels and work to prevent certain diseases, Coenzyme Q10 will undoubtedly help some of us who are already suffering by giving us a better quality of life.
